Week of July 27, 2014

I can’t believe August is right around the corner. This summer is flying by! Everyone is out and about with this beautiful weather. On Facebook I’ve seen beaches, bourbon, bikinis, biking, burpees, boating, Biggest Loser and yes, of course Boot Camp!

Class Cancellation Notice

We need to cancel this Saturday’s class on August 2. It’s the day of the Egg Run here in town. Please pass this along. Last year, I started the class an hour early hoping those who wanted just a boot camp workout could scoot out before the roads closed; however, some people encountered road blocks. So, this is a good time to participate in the Egg Run/Walk. It’s affordable and a great community event. Volunteers are always needed. Here’s the link: http://www.fairfaxrecreation.com/eggrun.html

Crazy Saturday Workout

All of our workouts are different. Yesterday’s had a different twist. It first started with Anita bringing me LSD (a shirt that says LSD from Delaware). So thoughtful! Thank you Anita. We then moved on to several types of 30 second interval moves. The best one was the over and under with the resistance bands. Touch the band and you were penalized push-ups. The sun was shining and we were singing all types of songs . . . great time!20140726_082734 20140726_091331

Shout Outs . . .

Samantha G. is training for a half marathon in September and she’s working quite hard. She just ran her personal best for a 5K in 27.30. She’s building strength by strength training, not just running! Nice work Sam!

There is a group of amazing women at Killington today participating in the Biggest Loser Half Marathon. They’re the crew from the Jeffersonville Boot Camp: Bobbi R., Rose B., Carla A., Abbie S., Eliza P. . . . I apologize if I missed anyone else.

Here’s a description of the event. Sounds like a great event. “The Biggest Loser RunWalk Killington Half Marathon/5K courses each have a twist! Participants run/walk down the mountain, then take the ski lift back up and continue along with breathtaking views of Killington Peak, the second highest peak in Vermont. The 5K course goes through beautiful downtown Killington while the half marathon route, great for someone’s first half marathon, travels along rustic wooded roads with stunning views of the Green Mountains. Afterwards kick back with family and friends and celebrate at the post-race concert featuring former “Biggest Loser” contestant and Nashville recording artist, Dan Evans at Killington Resort’s Roaring Brook Umbrella Bar.”

If you have a great story to share about yourself or someone else who’s too shy to share, please let me know!

Recipes…you don’t always need to use the expensive pine nuts. Here’s a link to 12 different pesto recipes. The first one listed is Garlic Scape Pesto, “Garlic’s young shoots perfume this mild pesto, perfect for tossing with fresh egg pasta. If you can’t find scapes, substitute green garlic or a combination of garlic and chives.” http://www.saveur.com/gallery/Pesto-Varieties
